Tales from the Trails Post #6

People, Places and Things Revisited...

PEOPLE

We gained a new BC Boy in Fernie, Ed's law school buddy Bret,
who looks like he wants to sue me for taking this pic

Ed contemplating the scenery from the top deck of the longest FREE car ferry in the world:
the Kootenay Lake Ferry

Not to be outdone, James on the trail contemplating as hard as Ed

The new core four posing for a ubiquitous selfie

Johni, one of the amazing characters we've met along the way, and owner of Old Cowboy Ranch.
Here Johni shows me to our campsite amongst her peacocks and horses

One of the many, many, many ice cream vendors we've had the pleasure to meet

Somewhere along the way I lost a tooth, but kept smiling

Halfway through the trip we began taking pics before the day's ride, with fingers raised indicating the number of days spent on the trail. We rarely agreed on the number, and here Bret refuses to take part altogether, as he'd been on the road longer than we. This is day 18 for The BC Boys. Or perhaps not.

Ed's grimace tells of the day's challenges. This is the only time I was asked into SOS pick-up service, in Trail BC

In my files this pic is labeled "James pose #7", with Lake Okanagan
in the background

PLACES

On the road to a nonexistent campground called Ram/Cabin Pass

Free-tenting at nonexistent Ram/Cabin Pass. Later we'd learn the area has the highest
concentration of grizzlies in all of British Columbia

Some of my drives to our nightly campsite took me to places the riders didn't experience.
This is in Joffrey, BC

Great pic by James, taken near the Kimberley River

Our first peek of Glacier NP's peaks

Taken from a bridge on way to Kimberley Lake

Ed taking in the beauty of Kootenay Lake

On the ferry across Kootenay Lake

North Fork Flathead River

Rio de Janeiro???

THINGS

The Beast

H. Puppy showing off his cycling footwear

Breakfast coffee bar

This heart boulder weighs at least four times American Airline's weight limit. Otherwise, I'd bring it home to add to my wife's collection.
Sorry honey ❤️

A part of a Grizzly bear jaw bone found at Ram/Cabin Pass

Another serendipitous find: a field of daisies in the middle of nowhere

Horses outside of Fernie, BC

Ed explaining a sundial's horologic mechanics

The ol' deodorant-in-the-faucet-handle trick. Never fails

Eagle-eyed Ed spotted this Baldie keeping watch over a lumber mill

I am writing this post from Whitefish, Montana, known as "The Gateway to Glacier National Park." Whitefish is also the official end point of our amazing trip. It is sad to see it end, and there is more to post. Following will be a photo dump of three unique and special places -- Fernie, BC,  Polebridge, MT and Glacier NP -- and final thoughts regarding this trip of a lifetime.

Thank you all for coming along for the ride.

A reminder that a big goal of this trip is to raise money for two charities, to which we hope you will consider donating. Ed and I are riding/driving for https://mchsmi.org/

Ed and I to date have raised $ 14,436.00 of our goal of
$ 20,000.00 for https://mchsmi.org/
James has raised over $ 5000.00 for Support Lummi Nation Boys & Girls Club.
